Within the next two weeks the football season will recommence. Birmingham City FC competed in two preseason matches to date. Initially Karanka’s first match in charge was a 1-1 draw against Lee Bowyer’s Charlton Athletic. Leicester City traveled to Wast Hills for a midweek match, which nearly ended as a 3-0 loss but a late penalty save from Zach Jeacock ultimately maintained the match as a 2-0 loss for Karanka’s side.
First signing – First match
The addition of George Friend to the first team brings some valuable experience to the defensive line and a player with strong leadership qualities. Karanka has also attained the backroom quartet of David Karanka, Nelson Jardim, Juanjo Vila and Carlos Pena. David is the younger brother of Aitor and he will be working in an assistant capacity with Jardim. Whereas Junajo Vila and Carlos Pena will be operating as the head of analysis and assistant head of analysis.
Karanka Era Commences
As a new chapter begins, CEO Xuandong Ren unveiled the special one’s former assistant and the latest manager to take the helm at St.Andrews Trillion Trophy Stadium, Aitor Karanka. The proclaimed ‘project’ is underway and the squad rebuilding can commence after Karanka’s unveiling.
In the last few weeks, the news streaming out of St. Andrews Trillion Trophy Stadium has begun to look progressively positive. The Blues avoidance of the potentially destructive relegation into EFL League One and their recent acquisition of Aitor Karanka to fill the vacant head coach position, since the departure of Pep Clotet on the 8th of July.
Although, the additional departure of Jude Bellingham, Lee Camp, Cheick Keita, Jacques Maghoma and a number of players, whose contracts expired has left Birmingham’s squad seeming sparse, as the club enters a pivotal transfer window. Ultimately this window could be a decisive factor in determining whether they will enter the dreaded relegation battle, mid-table obscurity, or challenging towards the top end of the table.
